Apple has sold over 3 million iPads as of June 26, 2010 since it was launched in April 2010. What features of iPad make it so successful ? Well, iPad is a gadget that has opened up wonderful possibilities with its interesting features.  Following are some of the features of iPad that have made it a much wanted item.

Large Multi Touch Screen
The iPad has a large multi touch screen which allows you to view web pages one at a time.  You can easily navigate through text using your finger to flick screens up or down.  The colors are vibrant and the text is sharp. Pages can be viewed at a size which is easy to read.  You could also pinch a photo for  zooming in or out of it.  Also you can see thumbnail view of all pages that are open.  This would be displayed in a grid.  This helps to move quicklybetween different web pages.

Emailing
If you are viewing your screen in landscape then you can achieve a split view which shows an open email on one side and inbox messages in the other.  To view only the open email, go back to iPad portrait, the email will automatically rotate and fill the screen.  You can easily scroll through mail and compose new ones with the large keyboard onscreen. You can delete mails with just a tap or a flick.  Emailed photos can be seen inside the message.  Saving photos is also an easy job with built in Photo Apps.  It works well with all the popular email providers such as Yahoo Mail, Hotmail,Gmail, MobileMe and AOL.

Photo Sharing
The iPad lets you share and enjoy photos in extraordinary ways.  It displays photos of a single album like a stack.  All you need to do is, just tap it and the album will open up. You can then choose to flip through the pictures, zooming  in and out or view it like a slideshow.  iPad also serves as a beautiful photo frame while it is charging or docked.  You can download your photos from your email account or import directly from a camera with the Camera Connection Kit which is optional.

You Tube Videos
The iPad has You Tube App. This organizes the videos so that they are easy to view and to navigate.  With just a tap, you can view the video you want to, in full screen.
Because of Ipad’s high resolution display, You Tube videos look fantastic.

Videos and Movies
Video watching is a great experience with iPad as it has a large screen with high resolution.  You need to just double tap to switch from widescreen to full screen.  You can easily immerse into your video, movie etc without buttons or keypads to distract you.

iPod Music
The iPod app lets you browse through songs and select them with a single flick.  One tap is all it takes to play your song.  The iPad has powerful speaker in built which make listening to music a pleasure.  You can enjoy music using wired headphones or wireless Bluetooth headphones as well.

iTunes
You can buy or rent movies through iTunes wirelessly from iPad.  You can preview songs before purchasing them. You can also sync iPad with your Mac or PCs iTunes library.  This application allows you to choose from millions of songs and thousands of TV shows and movies.

iBooks
The iBooks application can be downloaded free at the App Store.  You can buy anything including  classics and best sellers in the iBookstore.  After purchasing a book it automatically comes to your Bookshelf. Tap to read the book.  Also the iPad has a LED backlit screen which is having high resolution.  This makes it trouble free to read books even when there is low light.

App Stores
The iPad has over 1, 40,000 apps in its App Store. New apps that are specifically designed for iPad will be highlighted in it. Apps can be downloaded wirelessly on to the iPad at the App store.

Notes
It is easy to jot down notes with the large keyboard onscreen.  While using landscape view you can see all your notes listed along side your current note.  The iPad circles the note in current use  to make it easy to find.

Maps
Maps can be viewed in high resolution using Google Services.  Jut tap and view the map from above.  You can easily get directions to a nearby restaurant using Google maps.

Contacts & Directions
The Contacts app in iPad helps you find information of contacts easily.  To get directions all you need is to tap on the address of the contact and iPad open up maps.

Calendar
iPad calendars can be viewed day week or month wise. Multiple calendars can be viewed together. Details also can be viewed. iPad makes managing schedules simpler.

Spotlight Search
The spotlight search feature let you search within in built and even downloaded applications.  This includes searching within contacts, mail, notes, calendar and iPod.

The basic iPad priced at $499 is a steal when you can imagine the various things you can do with your iPad.  iPad accessories from Apple and other third party manufacturers further enhance the user experience of iPad.  No wonder iPad has become so special in just a short period of time since it was launched.
