The Apple iPad – Reviewed
Candid Review of the Apple iPad
The introduction of the iPad from Apple has been looked forward to in the market of electronic gadgets and it has been 10 years since rumors of its appearance. Its physical dimensions are 1024×768, a 9.7 inch touchscreen with a thickness of half an inch and has an IPS display that is LED-backlit. The iPad is enhanced with a Bluetooth 2.1, an accelerometer and a built-in compass. Though the gadget had a lot of marketing that went before its launch, many people feel it falls short of what is come to be expected from the stables of Apple. Here is a candid review of the iPad.
Prior to the introduction of the iPad, it was called the Apple Tablet, the iTab and the iSlate. Comparisons have been made with the Kindle – the ebook reader from Amazon. The difference clearly is that the Kindle is a dedicated reader and does not perform the other functions of the iPad.
One wonders if players that have heavily invested in the eReader industry – like Acer and Amazon – should be worried at the introduction of the iPad, which is in fact a low-level entry in a market that is fiercely competitive. So far as the iPad is concerned, it does not compare with the other eReaders in the market in terms of user-friendliness, though it comes with other benefits. Also, it did not create the same kind of bang on its market entry as the iPhone or iPod.
The iPad has more than one use. It does not just enable users to browse or read ebooks, it also facilitates the user to view and import pictures and photographs via USB or SD card reader, surf the internet and watch videos. In fact there are thousands of iPad accessories available in the market from Apple as well as third parties to carry out different functions not supported in the iPad. This makes the iPad a very versatile gadget.
The iPad syncs with your computer just like the iPhone does and also runs its applications. Sadly, the iPhone apps show in tiny windows or get pixilated when you run it double-size. It is hoped that Apple will work on improving the quality and coming up with an upgrade. It was expected that the iPad would run on a higher OS – the OS 4.0. It has been disappointing to note that it runs on iPhone OS3.2 operating system.
Internet can be accessed by use of the Wi-Fi and international usage too is possible with the GSM micro-SIM. The price of the iPad ranges from between $499 and $699 for 16 GB and 32 GB respectively. Though the connectivity is still not something to rave about, users will be able to use the storage devices and the portable eReaders with ease, though not the best reading quality. iPad has already sold over 2 million units in just two months after it was launched in April 2010. Within a year of its release, the iPad is expected to sell 10 million pieces.
As per a recently published iPad reviews, some negative features of the iPad like the brighter glare of the backlighting in comparison with the Kindle puts the iPad on a lower rung. The reader text too needs some development. The Flash support of the iPad is lacking and seems a serious hurdle. Also the user cannot listen to music and compose an email at the same time, which makes it not so user-friendly. However, overall the iPad has very impressive features and with the plethora of accessories and applications it supports, iPad is going to stay for a long time.
